Sowing with Open Conscience
“Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.” (NKJV) I Timothy 4:16.
In dealing with biblical studies on sowing and reaping, two analogies readily come to mind: a worker and his bank account and a farmer and his field. As workers, we work hard to earn a living and save for the future. If we do not spend our earnings wisely, we turn to be miserable for some years to come.
Every farmer knows that she can't sow maize and get barns filled up with wheat when harvesting time is due. Nature and the Bible have taught us that whatsoever a man sow, he will reap.
Paul admonished the Galatian Christians to sow to the Spirit and not to the flesh and its deceitful pleasures (Galatians 6:8). Likewise, we must also fill our salvation/eternal life account with good seeds while living on earth.
As we pray for God to fill us with the Holy Spirit to sow good seeds, we must also have an open conscience and think deeply about these questions:
- Am I sowing to the flesh or spirit?
- Is God pleased with my seed?
