WELLSPRING OF GODLINESS

By: Jiloml

“It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night."(NIV) Psalms 92: 1-2

Bible Reading: Psalms 92: 1-15

Are we aware that what makes a Christian more effective and productive is his attitude towards God and people in all things? Of what springs out of his heart in all circumstances that he finds himself? Can this be said of us too?

We are all aware of the life of David, his strength and his weaknesses. In spite of all, God declared him a man after my own heart. What is it about David that made him one of the greatest kings? This is a man with flaws like us and yet God gave a kingdom to carry his name forever?

David’s son disobeyed God, but God kept a tribe of the kingdom of Israel for his descendants instead of taking all away from Solomon-1 Kings 11:9-13. In verse 13, it is written yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant…

You must be wondering what made him so special in the eyes of God. The Psalmist says it all. He reflected on all that God has done for him daily. He shows his gratitude all the time to God in words and in deeds. We can’t deny the numerous mistakes he made; on the contrary, he accepted them and immediately repented of them, giving thanks to God for making him aware of it. He had no time to harbor hatred. As a result a spring of godliness flowed from him to all Israel.

Gratitude to God as Christians makes us effective in the work of God, and we do not become proud, discontented, selfish, unforgiving and hateful in life. We don’t make room for unnecessary evil doings. Gratitude to God leads to Godliness.

For us to be very productive in God we must cultivate a heart that is grateful to God in all things at all time, so that a wellspring of godliness may be produced in us. Would you want to be the next man after God’s heart? Then create in yourself a wellspring of Godliness.
