Will it please the Lord?

"And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. " (NIV) Colossians 1:10

The natural tendencies to belong to a group or society force us as humans to please the people within those groups or society. It is difficult to please everybody because everybody has his or her standards. However, comparing pleasing everybody to pleasing God, I believe pleasing God is easier since God’s standards do not vary.

The song of a local music artist comes to mind: “In whatever I say or do, I must ask if it will please the Lord”. Anytime I listen to this song, I feel guilty because many times, I haven’t paused to ask myself if it will please the Lord. Our primary duty on earth is to please our maker. Just like Paul in Romans 7:15, we sometimes want to do the right thing but end up doing the opposite. One of the major solutions to this problem is to always pause and ask if whatever I am about to say or do will be pleasing to the Lord?

Many Christians are involved in all kinds of sins because sometimes worldly desires take the better part of us and before we realize, we have done the unthinkable (sinned). Many things around us that do not please the Lord have become so normal to us because we see it every day and the only way to ensure we do not pollute ourselves with these sins is to always consciously keep asking, “will it please the Lord”?

But we need to know what pleases the Lord first and foremost before we can answer the question, “will it please the Lord”? Luckily for us, everything that pleases the Lord is boldly written in the bible and the bible comes in different languages that we can read and comprehend. Our duty, therefore, is to study the bible so much that at any given time, we know off head what pleases the Lord so that anytime we silently ask ourselves if our words or actions are pleasing to the Lord, we know the exact answer to provide ourselves before we proceed.

In the event that we are not sure if what we want to say or do will be pleasing unto the Lord, we can hold on as we make reference from the scriptures or seek advice from people who will only base their advice on biblical principles. This way, we can always do the right things that will please our Lord only. God bless us all.
