Growing through Self-control

Bible Reading: Galatians 5:16-23

Anyone who wishes to attain a productive and flourishing life must learn to control him/herself. There is an ongoing struggle inside of us (our sinful nature and the part that wants to do God's will).

It is important that every Christian learns to control his/her life to avoid falling prey to the devil. In Galatians 5:22-23, Apostle Paul admonished us to let the Holy Spirit guide our lives then we won't be doing what our sinful nature craves.

Our sinful nature wants to always do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. These two forces (Spirit and Flesh) constantly fight each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions as a believer.

The Spirit can win only if we accept that we cannot control our lives by our might but submit ourselves to daily studying and living by God's word. This is the only way the spirit can bear and produce fruits in our lives. These fruits include love, patience, kindness, peace, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and finally, self-control can then manifest for all to see.

Finally, as we continue to be glued to God's guidance, our self-control will also grow with time. With the aid of the Holy Spirit, we will surely produce self-control in our various lives.
