When the Lord gives His word

Written by Alhassan Mohammed Sandargo.

“The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.” (KJV) Psalm 68:11

Throughout history, the success of any great mission has depended on the swift and faithful delivery of orders. A striking example is the Battle of Waterloo (1815). As Napoleon’s forces clashed with the Duke of Wellington, a crucial message was sent to British reinforcements. If delayed, the battle would be lost. The messenger rode relentlessly, ensuring the message was received in time. The result? Victory.

Likewise, when God gives His Word, it must be received, obeyed, and proclaimed without delay. Scripture is not for idle contemplation alone—it demands action. “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22). The Gospel, too, is a message of urgency. Jesus commanded, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Those who carried His Word—prophets, apostles, and believers—changed history because they acted swiftly and faithfully.

Delayed obedience is disobedience. When Jonah hesitated, he faced the storm (Jonah 1:3-4). But when he finally delivered God’s Word to Nineveh, an entire city repented (Jonah 3:3-5).

God’s Word is powerful and life-giving, but it must be embraced and declared. As with the messenger at Waterloo, the difference between victory and defeat lies in the urgency of response. When the Lord gives His Word, let us act—without hesitation, without fear, and with full faith. God has already spoken and great must be the company of those who proclaim it.
