Silver or gold I do not have

Written by Alhassan Mohammed Sandargo.

“Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’” (NIV) Acts 3:6

Peter and John stood at the temple gate, not as wealthy men, but as vessels of divine authority. When the beggar reached out, hoping for money, Peter did not shrink back or apologize for what he lacked. Instead, he gave what he had - faith in the living Christ. And through that faith, a miracle unfolded.

Too often, we delay giving until we feel more qualified - more skilled, educated, or financially secure. But God never asks us to give what we do not have. He simply asks us to offer what we do. David had a sling (1 Samuel 17:40), Dorcas a needle (Acts 9:36-39), and the Samaritan woman only her story (John 4:28-30), yet God used them all.

We are not defined by what we possess or lack, but by who we are in Christ. So, what do you have today that could bless someone?

A smile, a listening ear, a whispered prayer, a kind word, a helping hand, a thoughtful phone call, or simply your time - such small offerings can brighten someone’s darkest day and reflect the heart of God.

Never underestimate what’s in your hand. Like Peter and John, offer it in Jesus’ name. You may not have silver or gold, but what you do have could be exactly what someone needs - hope, healing, and the presence of Christ.

What small thing do you have and what are you afraid to give? Lord, help us. Amen.
