The windowpanes

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

“Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people; so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.” (NLT) Hebrews 9:14-15

Every time I stare at my windowpanes, I feel sorry for never having the time to attend to them as I do my room. I decided one Saturday to give them a deserving treat. In the process, I made an amazing observation.

After taking away the first coat of dirt, I noticed, the water was creating shapes on the panes that really annoyed me. I wondered if I wasn’t doing it right but as I cleaned all, I realized they were flowery designs on the windowpanes. They were beautiful and amazing to gaze at. Most definitely, water is shapeless; it only takes the shape of its container. This was the case of the cleaning water and the flower designs.

Once cleaned, the windowpanes showed its beauty. This kept me thinking for some time about what the blood of Christ does for us. Right from the time when we give ourselves up for baptism and throughout our journey with Christ, His blood cleans and beautifies us. It brings the best in us that we never thought even existed in us. His blood has and continues to sustain us from all sin.

This New Year calls for total surrender to Him who is able to keep us from falling into sin. I do not know what the New Year holds for me, but I know of a man who purifies better and makes His beauty in us shine forth than these windowpanes. His name is Jesus, the Sanctifier (John 17:17). I will therefore draw near to him this year and be made more beautiful than eyes can see. Who will you go to beloved brethren?
