Lord, I invite you

Written by Alhassan Mohammed Sandargo.

"As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued as if he were going farther. But they urged Him strongly, 'Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.' So He went in to stay with them."(NIV) Luke 24:28-29

Bible reading: Luke 24:13-33

The Bible reading talks about two disciples journeying from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Fear and disappointment had taken the better part of them, and yet their warm and kind hearts caused them to do good to an unknown stranger. It took a great effort and plea to convince this stranger (who happened to be the Lord Jesus) to heed their invitation- for it appeared their love was being tested. (Luke 24:29)

In like manner, the Lord will visit us and may test our love pulse for Him. He may appear to be passing by us sometimes (Luke 24:28) but thankfully that is never the case (Hebrews 13:5b). Rather, He gives us the freedom and blessing of calling Him into our lives. His love for us is so strong that He doesn't turn down any genuine invitation.

Like it did in the two Emmaus-road travellers (Luke 24:32), our hearts can also burn within us as we unknowingly experience God's presence and love in our lives. That should encourage us to eagerly invite Him into our hearts or the situation we are battling with. At that point, we can just say, 'Dear Lord, I invite you to move me to more love deeds' (Mark 12:30-31) Amen!
