Doing what is right

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did his father David. And he banished the perverted persons from the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made” (NKJV) 1 Kings 15:11-12

The universe we find ourselves in is full of many things to the extent that humanity cannot understand all. Humanity keeps trying to find the purpose of the universe and how to utilize the universe to our advantage. Some have tried to accept the fact that the universe has a divine creator with his expectations and guidelines. Unfortunately, humanity loves to do things according to our way to please ourselves.

Who determines what is right? Surely, it is God, because, apart from him there is nothing right under the universe. We can know what is right when we depend on the Bible as the word of God and as a standard for righteousness. King Asa became a great king in the kingdom of Judah and the divine assessment of Asa’s rule was that he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, generally.

God continues to communicate to his creation and those who listen and follow his instructions are considered doing right. By listening to the word of God through the prophet, king Asa started a reformation process (1 Kings 15:12-15; 2 Chron. 15:8-18). He expelled the sodomites and the destroyed idols introduced by his predecessors. King Asa deposed his grandmother as queen mother in his reformation.

Are you ready to know the truth, stand for it and pursue it? God’s words for defining the right decisions of life still exist in the Bible. Let us keep searching for God’s truth in the Bible. King Asa did not seek approval from people before initiating reforms in his life and kingdom.

As you have been blessed with a new day, let us be ready to know more about God’s truth that is for our righteousness. You must be ready for the consequences of doing what is right because the enemy and society will try to discourage, demonize and destroy you.

Be assured, those who persist in doing right will overcome in the end on this earth and after this life. With Christ as the king of doing things right upon all challenges, his followers can do the same.
