Run with focus

''When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greetings, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. (NIV) Luke 1:41

My son, stay focused; listen to the wisdom I have gained; give attention to what I have learned about life. (VOICE) Proverbs 5:1

God has a divine purpose for everyone. Some can identify that early in life and others will know theirs later. Some may not identify their purpose and die with their talents.

From scripture, man was created by God to obey and glorify Him. All efforts must be focused on helping man achieve that purpose. Unfortunately, many of us do not understand why God created us and what we are to achieve. We engage in all sorts of activities to acquire power, position, and possessions because we think that will make us happy in this world. The enemy just uses these activities to prevent us from achieving our divine purpose i.e. holiness. Our family members, co-workers and friends may serve as a medium used by the enemy to thwart our efforts (Job 2:9). The media and modernity are also tools the enemy uses to distract us from God.

However, do not be dismayed, we can remain focused by listening to the Word of God and giving attention to what we have learned about life (Proverbs 5:1). For example, we can learn from the life of John the Baptist. He identified his divine purpose in his mother’s womb- to pave way for his master (Jesus Christ). After his birth, John never lost focus but pursued this sole purpose until he was executed by Herod (Matthew 3; Mark 6:14-29). Let us strive to run the race of life with our focus on Jesus Christ and holiness will be our portion. Amen!
