The Invitation

Written by Adelaide Mensah.

“The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.” (NIV) John 1: 41-42

Everyone knows Maame to be a spirited campaigner for good news, whenever she has anything good, she gladly shares it. A few weeks ago, I interacted with her and she expressed her disappointment in the feedback she got from some colleagues of hers. She had visited a beautiful landscape and invited her colleagues to see it too. She made them aware that the entire scenery is a place to behold and would give them the peace to work on their writing projects, but they wouldn’t even listen to her and no one showed any interest in seeing the place. In my attempt to calm Maame down, I made up excuses for their reaction.

Maame’s story reminded me of the woman in Samaria in John 4:28-30. This woman upon hearing Christ speak told his entire town about her encounter with the Messiah. Both women, Maame and the Samaritan woman shared the good news to their neighbours and extended an invitation to their neighbours.

As Christians, we have a more important invitation to extend to our family, friends, and everyone around us. We have received a good thing-a purpose-driven life in Christ, and we need to allow others experience it by extending an invitation. Not too many will accept this invitation but as a family, it is our duty to always share the goodness of our life in Christ and send out the invitation.

In John 1:41, when Andrews found Christ, he informed his brother Simon (Peter) that the messiah has been found and they both came to Christ. Their experience with Christ was worth their while. Jesus offered them forgiveness (Roman 2:24), hope (Roman 5:13), peace (Philippians 4:7).

In Christ, we have a fulfilled and purpose-driven life. Why don’t you invite someone today?
