Pure in heart
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God" (NIV) Matthew 5:8
Biologically, the heart is at the centre of pumping blood to maintain all body functions. The heart is also the seat of our emotions, attitudes, thoughts and will. Without the heart, life is vain. Proverbs 4:23; Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life. Our attitudes and behaviours arise from what we harbour in our hearts.
In an attempt to survive the complexities and challenges of our time, we will offend people and many others will also offend us. Human hearts are full of bitterness, greediness and wickedness. In order to keep a pure heart, we need to forgive others as we expect God to forgive us. Many people now are always putting up nice appearances and harbouring bad intentions in the heart even among Christians and in the Lord’s church.
God, our righteous Judge, knows our actions and intentions and will reward us accordingly. We can deceive mankind because man only judges by physical appearance, but God knows the heart of everyone.
The pure in heart will see God. I know we are all anxiously waiting to see God one day. If we have a pure heart, it will have a direct bearing on how we treat each other as brethren. If our heart is pure, we will properly care about and for one another. Cheating others in order to achieve worldly possessions and positions are not attributes of those who are pure in heart.
If we desire to win others to Christ, it begins with a pure heart. The way we influence the world will correlate to the quality of our hearts. Those with a pure heart care for perishing souls and will also partake in their rescue mission. Beloved ones, do you have a pure heart?
God is demanding a pure heart from us today and always to portray the Spirit of God in us. We can have a pure heart with the help of the Holy Spirit and the willingness to submit to God. Be pure in heart to see God. Amen!
