Grow as a wheat not chaff

Written by Christopher Opey Tetteh.

Bible reading: Matthew 13:24-30

Naturally, every wheat farmer tills the land not for the purpose or the benefit of harvesting plentiful chaff or tares to fill his barns, but rather, he toils and waits patiently (because farming is a profession of hope) for bountiful grains of wheat.

Figuratively, God is the farmer, the field he tills is this universe or world we live in, the wheat is the sons of the kingdom of God, and the tares are the sons of the wicked one (Satan). And God's ultimate goal is the cultivation and perfection of human beings. God has created us in His own image and has preordained us to be part of His kingdom. We must creep to maturity and bear more fruit for God to be happy just like a sustainable farming venture, the grower has got to make a profit.

A bumper harvest is very important to the farmer while weeds on the farm will not be entertained by him. In likewise manner, Christ expects that we bear fruits in deeds and make more disciples and eschew all sins that easily entangles as we seek to grow. The sons of the wicked one will strive to grow with us in this journey to heaven, but we must be different from them. God will surely select and lay us aside on the day of harvest which is the Judgment day.

I am an amateur farmer, I lack experience but one thing I have learnt in the field of farming is that no wheat has lived everlasting on the farmer's field, be it wheat or tares, they will all be gone one day.

Dear brethren, life tomorrow is never promised, we must seize every opportunity we get today to please God. As we grow to maturity, be a wheat and be beneficial to the farmer (God) and I believe that one day, we will be in His barns (Heaven).
