Desiring the pure Word of God

Written by Christopher Opey Tetteh.

"Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good." (NIV) 1 Peter 2:1-3

Every day is a fresh beginning for every believer, and we must seek to please the Lord at any cost as we thrive to grow beyond that of yesterday. The gift of life each day should bring us renewed hope to grow to please our maker.

Christian maturity is so important that every believer must strive to reach even in the face of challenges. Once we are in Christ, we must grow both physically and spiritually. God is not only the creator of each life, but He has also provided the way for us to grow to maturity spiritually, mentally, and physically. The Apostle Peter through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Tim. 3:16-17), instructed us on how we can be nourished to attain spiritual growth. He did that by using a simple but profound analogy of a baby and breast milk.

Newborns are usually fed with pure natural milk from the mother's breast to keep the child strong, flourished, and healthy. However, if this natural process or alternate form does not occur, malnutrition sets in.

The breast milk is pure and not contaminated when delivered from a mother to her baby. Likewise, God's word is very pure to groom, nurture and furnish us completely. It is not contaminated by any error or falsehood.

God's word is the only foundation and alternative for our spiritual lives, growth, and salvation. We must seek this "pure milk" as Christians with eagerness and fierce spirit. This milk is available for the strong, weak, thirsty, and susceptible and we must all pursue this pure milk. May God empower and strengthen us to seek His pure word daily.
