Mirror Image

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

"Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like." (NIV) James 1:23-24

It is a common practice for people to use the dressing mirror especially before stepping out of the house. We all reach out for the mirror hoping to see ourselves great and make corrections of any abnormality we see. The mirror is for self-inspection and will only reflect what we show to it.

The mirror does not discriminate and does not lie about the images it produces. How you position the mirror will reflect the kind of image you will get. Fortunately, there is an acceptable and standard way of using the mirror to get the best results. The Bible is like a mirror that shows us who we really are whenever we use it with honesty and humility.

Remember, if the object is good, the image will look the same. We cannot deceive ourselves before a mirror. Others will see the same images as we do if they also visit the mirror and none can escape the mirror effect. As humans, we forget ourselves after leaving the mirror, but the mirror does not change like the Bible. It is always there to show us our real character.

We all love nice, great and acceptable appearances but it is up to us to make it happen. Our maker (God) has done his part with everything we need in his word (Bible). Let us be dutiful by learning the word, demonstrate our faith with actions and not deceive ourselves in public packaged lives. Decide to be with God throughout your life to be great (James 1:21-25).

Let us be honest, humble and take heed of what the Bible tells us because it is the only way we can be shaped to get the best appearance we want for ourselves, society, and our maker.
