Knit together in love

Written by Derrick Owusu Antwi.

"For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ" (NKJV) Colossians 2:1-2

Paul, the apostle in his letter to the church at Colossae, affirms his heart desire for the church even those in Laodicea. He expresses how positive he thinks about the church even in his absence.

Beloved, we need to take a cue from the actions of Paul, to know, understand and practice true love. When we love one another, we owe them good deeds, not just flattery words. We need to go the extra mile to show our love to our fellow brethren and the good people of the world. God went the extra mile to give His only begotten Son to the world (John 3:16).

We should ward off bitterness, anger, negative thoughts and negative actions towards each other, especially those we love most. The writer of 1st John re-affirms and admonishes that we love indeed, not only in word or in tongue (I John 3:18).

We should be prepared to criticize constructively or rebuke a brother/sister in sin (Proverbs 15:31-33, I John 5:16). That is love, not hatred. We should be ready and diligently snatch those from fire, with Godly fear (Jude 1:23). In all our doings, let us be circumspect so as not to fall prey to the schemes of the evil one as we help one another (Galatians 6:1-2).

May God help us to understand and show love to our fellow brethren and all other people through the strength and wisdom He endows us with. Amen.
