Embracing the extra mile

Written by Christopher Opey Tetteh.

“If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (NIV) Matthew 5:41-44

Kindness is an act that every Christian must be willing to perform even in distressing, grievous and lamentable times.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, when Christ and the Apostles were supposed to rebel against their enemies, they never did (Matthew 26:36-56). Christ took the bitter pill and performed his usual miracles on a servant named Marcus whom Peter, out of anger and quick-tempered heart, ripped off one of his ears. This kind act of Christ is worthy of emulation without any hesitation, dear ones.

The world sees certain people not deserving of our kindness and love because of their ill and abominable behaviours towards us. However, Christ said we should love and care for them and because we live to obey our master and not our pleasurable desires, we must obey.

We must live a selfless and noble life like our master Lord Jesus. Let's show kindness to those who hate us and our loved ones for this will glorify God and make Christianity a very credible religion full of peace, love, joy, and salvation.

May God strengthen our faith in him so we can have a character full of generosity and benevolence to breed kindness in His kingdom to the very end of time.
