What is the standard?
“For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise ” (NKJV) 2 Corinthians 10:12
Life is all about decision making. For example, the choice of profession, partners and what to worship are based on everyday decisions. What informs your choices in decision making?
Like a building, two things are key to the final project. The master plan and the set of good measuring tools for the building. All actions are implemented to precision with the measuring tools to achieve the final design/master plan. As spiritual beings building our lives daily, we also need these two things.
How do you measure your life, what do you want to achieve? The only quality tool for measuring Christian lives is the Bible. “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does” (James 1:25).
Many people use wrong measuring tools in building their lives. Using ourselves as standard is not the right way. Proverbs 12:15 says “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise”. Also, other people should not be the standard measuring tool for your life. God created us differently to achieve different things in life in line with His eternal purpose. Remember, you are accountable to God for what you do, and others will not account for you.
Another wrong tool is to just follow standing practices or what everyone is doing. The wrong thing can be done continuously by people to look normal to the next generation. Sentimentalism and emotionalism are all the wrong tools.
As you start a new day, be cautious of factors that inform your decisions, how you act and what you use as a measure. We have a master blueprint in the Bible. Heaven is the goal and the Bible is the only wise and safe guiding/measuring tool to achieve success in life and beyond.
