Break the yoke

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke off your neck.” (NIV) Genesis 27:40

Life presents several experiences. Some occurrences can be explained whiles others cannot be explained. Whatever we achieve in life depends on who we are, what happens to us and more so, how we respond to events that happen to us.

Many people are living mediocre lives because they have accepted to live their lives according to some self-made limitations. Some of these self-made limitations may be your spiritual life, academics, professional or occupational lives. Have you accepted a ceiling because you think you have done enough and tired? Some even think that “maybe that is how God created them to be”.

Esau was the firstborn of Isaac and by that was entitled to a bigger share of the father’s blessings and inheritance. Esau sold his birthright to Jacob, his younger brother for a bowl of food. Now Esau was to be a servant to his junior brother as ordained by the father. This brought so much pain and hatred between the brothers that Jacob run away from the family house.

Esau did not give up. Though he was sad and disappointed, he accepted the challenge and lived his best. He worked harder and was able to gain a lot of material possessions. When Jacob was returning from his journey and tried to make peace with his brother with plenty of gifts. Esau responded I don’t need them because I have more than enough. Esau asked, “What do you mean by all these droves I met?” “To find favour in your eyes, my lord,” he said. But Esau said, “I have plenty, my brother. Keep what you have for yourself.” Genesis 33: 8-9.

You may not have been endowed with high business acumen, academic prowess, successful marriage, high spiritual maturity and others. You might have made a mistake earlier in life which reflects back guilt, pain and regret. Still never up and keep working diligently and harder and with the help of God, your divine supervisor, you will get what you deserve. Don’t accept any ceiling over your life, break the yoke. Amen.
