Prepared for the will of God

Written by Dede Abebreser Tsonyake.

"Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."(NIV) Matthew 26:39

Anytime we pray, we often sign off saying, “may your will be done”. However, are we prepared for the will of God if it does not coincide with what we brought before our God? Oh, it is so easy if God’s will is in line with what we asked for. That way, when our prayers are answered, we are all filled with joy and gladness. When the will of God is the reverse of what we ask of Him, that is where the problem lies.

Many at times, we are hopeful that whatever we bring before our maker, He will answer in the affirmative. However, it is not always so. When the answer tarries or never comes, frustrations set in and we think God has abandoned us. Some of us even think God is not being fair to us because we find nothing wrong with our requests. Our requests are neither malicious or selfish so why won’t God just answer it? I must confess I have felt this way on so many occasions but then I remembered, I asked that His will be done and not mine so why am I frustrated? I am just but human I suppose.

It is time to start preparing to accept the will of God no matter the form it takes in our lives. When we pray and ask of God, we should be prepared that our request may coincide with His will so He will grant it in His own time not ours. So the request may be in line with His will but the time we expect the request may not be in line with His will. Again, the requests, however good the intention may be, may not be in line with His will so will never be granted. We all have plans for our lives. To do this or that within specific time but then all the plans seem to be back firing, none is within schedule though we are being faithful Christians. God’s ways are not our ways; He sees the bigger picture that we do not. So let us prepare our minds and body for the will of God in our lives so we guard ourselves against frustrations when His will go contrary to our requests. I pray for divine insight for us all so we appreciate the will of God for our lives to be the perfect one. God bless you.
