Power of patience

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (NASV) Colossians 3:12

The insatiable nature of man keeps demanding more of everything we need and want in this life. Humanity is most of the time not content with whatever we are privileged to have at any time in life. The quest to get more at quick periods of time put so much pressure on people and that there is not a time to wait. Impatience is causing most of us to take hasty decisions, be stressful, worried and anxious about life. Anger and impatience from humanity are mostly directed to God and other human beings we expect to provide certain necessities of life.

Patience in this modern world is very hard to live by. "Patience is the quality that does not surrender to circumstances, or succumb under trial; it is the opposite of despondency and is always associated with hope.” It means waiting and not getting upset while we are waiting. The ability to go through trials and troubles without complaining is patience.

Because this flesh does not yield to God fast enough and sometimes prayers don’t get answered fast enough we become impatient. Patience is what we need to direct towards each and every one, to troubles and trials, and we will find strength in waiting on the Lord. Patience is difficult to practice because it is not easily accommodated in our physical nature, it must be learned and is developed by troubles, delays, and disappointments in life. Patience is seen by many people as a humiliating attitude, not a confident attitude.

Impatience get us in trouble and delays our blessings. Satan prefers impatient Christians who are impatient with God for it is a powerful tool he uses to defeat children of God. Moses’ impatience led him to miss entering the Promised land. Abraham’s impatience led to the birth of Ishmael. Peter’s impatience almost made him a murderer.

Remember, patience is a result (a fruit) of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives – Galatians 5:22. The Work of Patience (James 1:2-4) perfects us by polishing to remove the rough impatient edges. It proves that we are for real candidates for God. It Pleases God. Christians need patience to endurance as we wait for the Lord to return. The world will continue to be tough and competitive as move on. Do not lose heart because you think things are not working for you. Your time will come at God’s appointed time, be patient.

Keep working and waiting on the good LORD. Amen!
