Are you a pillar or a caterpillar?

“You must warn each other every day while it is still today, so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ." (NLT) Hebrews 3:13

One day I chanced on an article written by Dan Gulley, titled, ARE YOU A PILLAR OR A CATERPILLAR? I was inspired to write an article relating this to our Christian life.

In the hustling and bustling of our Christian lives, I believe the time has come for us to stop at a point and answer this question: am I a pillar or a caterpillar? We all know what pillars do. They serve as support for whatever thing for which it is used. And inversely, caterpillars are worm-like animals that crawl in and out to destroy.

The scripture says that we are to warn each other as the days draw near. The question is how many times do we do this? We see our brothers and sisters falling from grace and we rejoice in their fall. We won’t even uplift a brother or sister who is depressed from the troubles of this world with words of encouragement. We rather seek to destroy them as is the case of caterpillars.

We believe to be Christians and claim we are followers of Christ. Would Christ leave the flock unattended? Christ is a pillar for us and so must we be for other believers. We have left the work of God aside and we are pursuing our own selfish ambitions.

I am guilty and so do some of us. We have no excuse for this offense. We must repent of this and receive forgiveness from Jehovah God to become strong pillars in his church. We must rescue the perishing for God. We must encourage the weak and strengthen the feeble hands and legs. And as we do this, we must never forget to stand firm by trusting God. He is able to keep us from falling into sin. Amen
