Freedom from sin

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

"But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness." (NIV) Romans 6:17-18

The world now is struggling in many areas of life because humanity thinks God is no more relevant. People of this generation can do so many complicated things and have explanations to many life’s issues. God and holiness seems irrelevant to mankind now. People run to God only when there is an issue that is beyond their understanding.

Sin has become the order of the day in the modern world. We are our own standards and personal pleasure is the ultimate satisfaction all are seeking to achieve. Whatever it takes for man to achieve personal pleasure is what many are interested in and all means whether fair or foul are being used to achieve physical desires. Hanna in the Old Testament could not have a baby so she prayed to God for one. But it will interest you to know that many in our generation would prefer an affair outside marriage to get a baby. That is an example of the extent people are willing to go to achieve their desires.

Indeed, mankind is enslaved by sin and can do nothing to save himself. That is why Jesus came to die for us. Christ died to liberate us from our sins – 2 Cor.5:21. Therefore, we must also be willing to make the sacrifice and die with him – dead to sin. Through such death, we get freedom through His blood that was shed for all mankind.

Anybody in Christ is a new creature and have been made new in Life. The Holy Spirit is your motivator and comforter. Do not think it is impossible to live for Christ in this sinful world because everybody is doing the wrong thing. Whenever there is a will, there is a way. Jesus did not just die to save us from sin but also through the Holy Spirit continuously empower us to overcome sin. Be careful as you start this day and believe in God to help you free from sin. Amen.
